Antique Silver Tea Set for Collectors

The origins of tea drinking are not exactly known, but are said to have started as early as 2737B.C. Through the years, there have been many evolutions in the way tea is drank or served. If it goes as far as the time before Christ, this then sparks the interest of some avid collectors. When you talk about the age of an item, the more far back it comes from, the more valuable it is.

As time went by, the advent of tea sets for tea drinking or tea ceremonies and traditions came into realization. From earthen sets and porcelain ones, tea sets have now reached the era where it is made of different kinds of materials and with different designs. Some are more intricate than the others, some simpler yet elegant looking.

Collectors are people who intend to get items that are as antique or as unique as possible. It is their pride to be able to own items which would elicit envy or admiration from fellow collectors or just ordinary spectators alike. A chance to obtain a complete silver tea set, which dates back to as early as the 1700s, is pure obsession for these collectors, as those silver sugar bowls were introduced during the reign of William III. There were also some silver creamers from the time of Queen Anne. Some silver tea pots were introduced during the time of George II. Pieces like these make a collector’s hand itch.

Today, it is still possible to obtain an antique silver tea set with the help of good dealers. Some would even go as far as traveling around the world to look for valuable pieces. Once they find one that interests or intrigues them, they hunt until they get the complete set of the same maker. Others settle for a good substitute, which is of another maker, yet looks good with the collection he already has.

One of the strategies that collectors do is to collect pieces on by one. It is rare for them to get a complete silver tea set all at once. Sometimes, this one by one game makes the search even more exciting. They can start with just a silver tea pot, then a silver creamer, and so on. Sometimes, the journey of the search would lead them to finding other interesting pieces. Many owned tea sets from way back as the 1800s or 1900s may still be available for collection somewhere out there. Many families from that era have owned silver pieces that have been passed on from generation to generation and are still waiting to be discovered.

For more contemporary pieces, there are a lot of modern day silver tea sets available in the market. These are also made from highest quality materials and by well known designers. The collectors prefer those that are limited editions or are rare and solitary pieces, rather than those expensive ones that are mass produced.

Hearing stories like these makes one want to become an instant collector, too. What you have to remember, though, is that a silver tea set for collection is valued for its quality, rarity, creator, and how vintage it is.
